Description of the Attack:

Based on the acknowledgment of eyewitnesses and official reports from the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran (reports of the attack by authorities), as well as repeated reports from various international organizations¹ and media outlets, on the morning of 9 Esfand 1404 (February 28, 2026), the United States Army and the Zionist regime, concurrent with the commencement of aerial aggression against Iran, targeted the Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab with three two projectiles from above at short intervals.

This was not the only attack on that area; rather, simultaneously, projectiles were launched at the surrounding vicinity of this school, which included a children’s playground, the Shahid Absalan Public Clinic, and several commercial units.

To understand precisely what occurred at the moment of the attack, we must become better acquainted with the Tomahawk missile, which, based on credible documents and acknowledgment by the US Army, was used in the attack on Iran.

The Tomahawk missile (BGM-109 Tomahawk) is a long-range subsonic cruise missile manufactured by Raytheon Technologies, primarily used by the US Navy and some of its allies. This missile is designed for precision strikes against ground targets at very long distances and is considered one of the most famous standoff weapons in the world.

In its conventional configuration, this missile carries a high-explosive warhead weighing 450 kilograms, which enables damage to the target through two methods: impact detonation and delayed detonation.

This weapon possesses various operational characteristics; however, this discourse addresses its essential and specific features:

  1.  Very low-altitude flight (Terrain Hugging)
  2. Low radar cross-section
  3.  Programmable flight path with in-mission modification capability
  4.  Very high accuracy (CEP below 10 meters)

Various sections will endeavor to examine each of these characteristics; however, more significant than these features is the missile’s behavior at the moment of detonation.

Upon detonation, this missile generates an extremely rapid shock wave in the environment and transforms into a fiery sphere at high temperature within a very brief duration (explosion at extremely high velocity), ultimately converting the missile’s metallic body into thousands of fragments. All of these factors cause the structural collapse of the target under attack, and this phenomenon is clearly evident in the images of the school.

This type of explosion leaves specific physiological effects on the human body.

The severe blast wave and extremely rapid change in air pressure cause severe damage to the brain and lungs, resulting in internal hemorrhaging. Given the short-term thermal effect of these explosions, except in very close proximity, thermal injury does not occur. (Out of respect for the victims of this incident, these photographs will not be published in this discourse.)

Based on available images, following this attack, the school’s main building sustained extensive destruction and its roof collapsed. Consequently, 156 individuals were martyred on the spot, comprising: 73 boys, 37 girls, 7 student guardians including 4 men and 3 women, one school service driver, one pharmacy technician from the clinic adjacent to the school, one six-month-old fetus, and 26 educational staff members including 20 teachers, 2 principals, 2 custodians, and 2 vice principals.

Several important points regarding this crime are as follows: within a short interval of a few minutes, the school building was targeted twice, and according to eyewitness reports and images released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, around two o’clock and precisely when all rescue teams and families were present around the school for debris removal, the site was attacked again.

Based on available video footage, approximately one month after the main attack, and at a time when various media outlets and journalists were producing content at Minab School, the area surrounding the school was subjected to another drone attack.
